Wang Yi: Global South should strengthen, pursue unity and development

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called on Global South countries to strengthen themselves, stand together in unity and pursue development.
"The dynamism of the sweeping winds and surging clouds in the world today originates from the south. The hallmark of our era is the prominent, growing strength of the Global South," said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The Global South, with a share of over 40 percent of the global economy and a contribution rate of 80 percent to world economic growth, has become a key force in maintaining international peace, driving world development and improving global governance, the Chinese foreign minister pointed out.
The Global South holds the key to bringing stability to the world and making it a better place, he added.
Wang stressed that the Global South should form a united voice in the international arena, safeguard common interests, and continue to enhance the representatives and voice in global governance.
"We should insist on placing development at the center of the international agenda, cultivate development momentum, enhance development capacity and walk hand in hand on the road to modernization," Wang noted.
No matter how the international landscape evolves, China will always keep the Global South in our heart and maintain our roots in the Global South, Wang said.
