Two killed, 10 injured in AL fantional clashes in Narsingdi

Two people were killed, and 10 others injured during clashes between two groups of Awami League over "dominance" in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi this morning.

The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, 55, a member of the Chanderkandi Union Parishad (UP), and Kalpana Begum, 32, a former female UP member.
The incident occurred following a dispute between the factions led by Abid Hasan Rubel, a leader of Jubo League, and Harunur Rashid, AL vice-president of Raipura Municipal unit, said Abdul Jabbar, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station.
Quoting locals, the OC said, during the clash, Rubel's uncle, Manik, sought refuge in the house of Bashir Uddin, a member of Ward No 9 of Chandarkandi Union.
At that time, supporters of Harun entered the house and hacked him in Bashir Uddin's courtyard. Manik, a member of Ward No 8 of Chanderkandi Union, died on the spot.
Following this incident, clashes broke out between the two groups in Methikandi in Chanderkandi union, during which Kalpana was killed.
The clash between the two groups occurred over local dominance, the OC said.
Additionally, 10 people were injured by sharp weapons and bullets during the clash. The injured were rushed to Raipura Upazila Health Complex and nearby hospitals for treatment.
No case has been filed in this regard, he added.
Taking to the media around 12:00pm, the OC said that the police were waiting for army assistance.
