Gampaha District Councilor Mr. Ajith Mannapperuma said in Parliament today (5) that there is no need to go to rocket science in education reforms and if the Kannangara policy is implemented in 1944, education will not be in trouble.
Mr. Mannapperuma said this during the budget committee debate on the expenditure heading of the Ministry of Education.
Mr. Ajith Mannapperuma also said:
Life language policy should be implemented in every school. This question can be answered by teaching half of the subjects in English. Make a schedule including dates for this. Do it before going into big renovations. Education is the only method that can change a country. It is important to think about it and allocate money.
Gampaha is the district that produces scholars. Out of 97 schools in Gampaha, only 16 schools teach bilingualism. Technology is taught in only 12 schools. Only the biggest school in town has bilingualism and technology. Our education should be made to international standards. Subject streams should be made to that standard. University education should also be brought up to international standards. It is said that an international climate change university is being built. The last budget also had that. Are our children not children or only foreign children should be taught?
