Police said they were called to an address on Olliviers Rd in Phillipstown at around 6pm.

A spokesperson said there had been a serious assault involving two individuals at the address.

One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition while the other was taken into custody, they said.

A 43-year-old man was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on October 6.

A scene guard was at the Olliviers Rd property on Friday night and police examined the scene on Saturday.

There was a large police presence outside a block of units on the street and police staff in boiler suits could be seen entering an apartment on the upper storey of the block.
