The 52-year-old woman was found unresponsive on a walking path in the Casuarina Coastal Reserve north of Darwin last Friday night.

At that time, her cause of death was not treated as suspicious.

But in an update from Wednesday, NT Police said a post-mortem examination had identified “internal injuries that have yet to be explained”.

A crime scene was declared at the time of the incident and, while there were no visible signs of trauma, a post-mortem examination has identified internal injuries that have yet to be explained,” the police said.

“These injuries have lead to the classification of the case as a suspicious death, with Major Crime Detectives continuing their investigation.”

Anyone who was in the area of Casuarina Coastal Reserve between 5pm and 11pm on Friday with information is asked to call 131 444, quoting reference number P25258037.
