A music teacher and flute player who allegedly sexually abused a child has pleaded not guilty to the heinous allegations against her.

Janelle Colville Fletcher denied sexually abusing a girl when she appeared at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police have charged Ms Fletcher with the sexual abuse of a child and making a child amenable to sexual activity for alleged offending that occurred some years ago across regional South Australia and the Adelaide suburbs.

Ms Fletcher will now stand trial at the District Court with an arraignment booked for May.

Craig Caldicott, appearing for Ms Fletcher, asked the court to dismiss the charge of making a child amenable to sexual activity, but the issue was not settled, with the prosecution asking for more time to make a charge determination.

Ms Fletcher, from Trinity Gardens in Adelaide’s inner east, was formerly the head of music at Tabor College, but she no longer works there.

A school spokeswoman said the allegations did not involve a student from the school.

Ms Fletcher remains on bail and has been banned from working with children as a condition of her release.
