Injuries have been reported after Israeli shelling targeted the vicinity of tents housing displaced people west of Gaza’s city of Rafah.

  • Israeli tanks push deeper into western Rafah in south Gaza, firing shells at displaced people’s tents, with one armoured vehicle blown up by a Hamas-planted improvised explosive device.

  • The White House has described Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of the suspension of one US weapons delivery to Israel as “vexing” and “disappointing” as the public rift between the two allies intensifies.

  • Israeli forces have carried out deadly air attacks across Gaza over the past 24 hours, including a strike on a home that has killed eight people in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood.

  • United Nations experts have warned arms manufacturers against transferring weapons to Israel, saying they could be complicit in violations of international law carried out in Gaza.

  • At least 37,431 people have been killed and 85,653 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks stands at 1,139, with dozens of people still held captive in Gaza.

Israel’s Nuseirat massacre and Gaza’s wounds that won’t heal

The two weeks that have passed since the June 8 Nuseirat massacre, when Israeli forces killed at least 274 Palestinians to free four Israeli captives, have not brought any healing to the survivors.

More than 500 more Palestinians were injured in the attack, filling Deir el-Balah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, with every inch of the floors covered with people in pain bleeding and screaming. Many of the injured still lie at the hospital.

About a month ago, a quiet transfer happened. The Israeli army’s Civil Administration handed more control over the occupied West Bank to the Settlements Administration, led by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who lives in an illegal settlement himself.

Now Smotrich and his Settlements Administration control more things, like building regulations and the management of farmland, parks and forests.

Since he entered government, Smotrich has pushed openly for more Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank – illegal under international law – as steps towards annexation.

So what does this all mean?

At least 10 people killed in attack on al-Shati camp

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that at least 10 Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli strike on the Salah family in the al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

Another 17 people were wounded.

Israeli forces shoot at people in al-Mawasi, killing at least eight

After launching sound bombs to attract people around one of the local makeshift hospitals in al-Mawasi, near Rafah, Israeli forces fired an explosive shell at the area, killing at least eight Palestinians, witnesses on the ground say.

A number of ambulances are transporting the injured and the bodies to field hospitals.

There are also cases of displacement and panic among residents, as dozens of people have abandoned their belongings in their tents and have rushed to other areas of Khan Younis.

We’ll bring you more information as we have it.
