Highway walker killed before daybreak

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near Mid-Centre Mall, Chaguanas, that resulted in the death of an unidentified man in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, a 75-year-old man was driving south along the newly widened highway at an estimated speed of 70-80 km/h when he felt an impact. Upon pulling over and surveying the area, he saw nothing unusual and proceeded to the Freeport Police Station to report the incident.
Officers from the Chaguanas Police District, including Cpl Samaroo and PC Bernard, responded to the scene, where they met first responders from the Freeport Highway Patrol, including Cpl Edoo and PC Mahabir.
District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Ramadin later arrived, examined the body of the deceased, and officially pronounced him dead.
The identity of the deceased was not immediately known, but he may have been a homeless individual.
