The deaths of a man and child in Dublin are being treated as a murder-suicide, according to RTÉ News.

The bodies of a man and a five-year-old girl were discovered at a house in Finglas shortly before 20:00 local time (20:00 BST) on Saturday.

They are believed to be father and daughter.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ is reporting that the child's mother discovered the bodies when she came home from work.

Gardaí (Irish police) have confirmed that post-mortem examinations have been carried out.

They added that the results are not being released for operational reasons.

The house remained cordoned off on Monday as forensic examinations continued.

Gardaí said a family liaison officer continues to engage with the family of the deceased and that investigations remain ongoing.

"An Garda Síochána would like to acknowledge the support and assistance provided by the local community both to the family of the deceased and to investigating Gardaí," a statement added.
