MUMBAI: The city will experience 25 percent cut in the water supply from Tuesday 11am onwards till 11pm on Wednesday. This is on account of the BMC hydraulic engineering department undertaking the repair work of 1800 mm dia Tansa trunk main at Gandhi Nagar, Pokhran Road-Thane.

It is expected that the areas situated at the far end of the distribution zone, elevated areas in the city and residents on upper floors having a direct supply will be more affected due to low pressure.

The city is already reeling under a 20% water cut since August 2015 owing to an erratic monsoon.

The BMC, prior to the water cuts, would supply approximately 3750 million litres of water to Mumbai. However, with water cuts being imposed, only 3250 million litres of water is being picked up from the seven lakes.

Apart from the 20% water cut for residents, a 50% water cut has also been imposed by the BMC from August last year for bulk consumers like malls, star hotels, factories, stadiums. Water to civic swimming pools has also been disconnected.
