Dehradun: With the arrest of two persons from Bijnor on Friday, the Udham Singh Nagar police claimed to have cracked the sensational murder case of Dr Sunil Kumar, who was shot dead while he was attending to patients at the community health centre in Jaspur on April 20.

Following the initial clues, a police team arrested Manik Rathi and his brother-in-law Subham Tyagi, and seized from them the white motorcycle used in the crime.

The duo allegedly killed the doctor to "avenge the death" of Rathi's three-month-old daughter who was treated by him. According to cops, besides treating the children at the CHC, the paediatrician also visited homes of patients to help them. On April 17, Kumar had gone to Rathi's residence to treat his daughter.

On April 18, the child's health deteriorated and Rathi rushed her to the CHC but due to some reason Dr Singh could not attend to the child, SSP (Udham Singh Nagar) A S Takwale.

Rathi took the child to some other medical centre but she could not survive and died in the early hours of April 19. "To avenge her death, Rathi sought help from Tyagi, his brother-in-law, and they hatched a conspiracy to eliminate the doctor," cops said.

Around 10.30 am on April 20, they came to the CHC and while Tyagi stood outside the clinic with the motorcycle, Rathi went inside and shot dead the doctor from point blank range. Rathi and his family lived in a rented accommodation in the Patti Chauhan Gujratiyan area of Jaspur. "After the crime, the duo went to Bijnor and were hiding in a house there," said the SSP.
