Vadodara: The police department was in shock on Tues day following the death of Chhota Udepur deputy superintendent of police (DySP) M A Vala (50), who shot him self in the chest with his service pistol in his office. Vala was rushed to a private hospital in Vadodara where he died during treatment.

Considered to be a daring officer, his suicide came as a shock to many . "He was a hard working officer and a lively person who rarely showed signs of depression. It is unfortunate we lost him in this manner. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind his suicide," said Chhota Udepur SP P C Baranda

"We are inquiring if Vala had left any suicide note or not," he added. According to police, Vala shot himself with a brand new Austrian-made Glock pistol that was recently allotted to him. Hearing the shot, at around 11am, his colleagues rushed to his chamber and found him lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to a local hospital and then to a private hospital in the city where he succumbed to the injury.

Vala had joined the police force as a sub-inspector in 1997. In 2008, he was promoted as PI and in August last year he was promoted to the post of DySP . His first posting as DySP was at Chhota Udepur.
